I am sure that for most of you the word "diplexer" soon draws a blank, but unlike with a hundred similar terms in satellite television this term I will now explain to you.
The more informed of you should know that our LNBs down-convert satellite signals into a form much better suited for sending down the coaxial cable to the receiver. And no matter what type of LNB is used, including for both the C and KU Bands, this signal will always be somewhere between 950 and 2350 Mhz.
Now if you think further then does not a Terrestrial Aerial do a similar type of thing, but this time with signals between 47 and 850 Mhz, which would also support VHF Radio transmissions.
Therefore, for those wishing to reduce the number of cable runs entering their home we can use "diplexers" to turn two cables into one.
First you would need a Diplexer to combine the 47-850 Mhz and 950-2350 Mhz signals into one 47-2350 Mhz signal. And second when you need to send these frequencies to the Television and Satellite Receiver then you would need a second Diplexer to split the signal into their normal frequency bands.
And what with the modern double glazing causing cable run problems then why not reduce the number of cables going up your outside wall?
